How dreadful is this place
Why Jacob was so afraid for the Dream that he dreamed at Luz? Actually what Jacob received at Luz is the blessing from the Lord, then why he was so afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place? Because what Jacob saw in his dream is the Crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ, and will analyze some of the important information from his dream - 10.Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran. 11.And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. 12.And he dreamed, and behold a (#1) ladder set up on the earth, and the (#2) top of it reached to heaven: and behold the (#3) angels of God ascending and descending on it. 13.And, behold, the (#4) Lord stood above it, and said, I am the Lord God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; 14.And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 15.And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of. 16.And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not. 17.And (#5) he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven. 18.And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it. 19.And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first - Genesis 28:10-19
#1. Ladder setup on the earth: In modern days, many types of Ladders are available, but what Jacob saw in his dream is called sul·lām or sool-lawm in hebrew, which literally referring to cross type object in some of the ancient languages.
#2. Top of the ladder reached the Heaven: "Reaching the heaven" is commonly used word for tallest object in ancient days, the same word used for 10 - 15 feet height walls of Anakims cities - Whither shall we go up? our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, The people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims there - Deuteronomy 1:28
#3. Angels of God ascending and descending on it: Angels of God means our Jesus Christ, because he is the Image of Trinity God(Father, Word and the Holy Spirit) - And he said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man - John 1:51
#4. Lord stood above the ladder: When somebody is on the ladder, we cannot see their face, but in his dream Jacob saw the Lord face to face, because what Jacob saw was the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
#5. How dreadful is this place: If somebody simply standing on the ladder it will not hurt anyone, but what Jacob saw the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ that was the reason he was so afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place!
And finally Jacob reveled who was on the Cross, its God Almighty himself who suffered for our salvation - 3.And Jacob said to Joseph, God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me, 4.and said to me, Behold, I will make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will make of you a company of peoples and will give this land to your offspring after you for an everlasting possession - Genesis 48:3-4
