Joseph's dream about Jesus Christ

Joseph's dreams and how he became a ruler of Egypt is still a popular story, Bible has recorded 6 dreams that Joseph has encountered in his life, 2 of his own dreams, 2 from prison inmates, and 2 from Pharaoh. And Joseph interpreted the dreams of 2 prison inmates, and Pharaoh's 2 dreams, but he never reveled the meaning of his own dreams, only his brothers and father raised some questions on Joseph's dreams, so what is Joseph's interpretation on his own dreams? did he give any clue about his own dreams?

9.And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 10.Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When you come into the land that I give you and reap its harvest, you shall bring the sheaf of the first fruits of your harvest to the priest, 11.and he shall wave the sheaf before the Lord, so that you may be accepted. On the day after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it - Leviticus 23:9-11

Here what God told to Moses is called wave offering, and the sheaf of first fruits is representing our Lord Jesus Christ, and reaping the "sheaf of first fruits" and keeping them on Saturday, is explains how our savior Jesus Christ will be slayed, and how his body would be laid on the Sabbath day, When the sheaf is alive, it used to stand straight and waves by the wind, and so on the third day(sunday) the priest should wave the sheaf by hand as it got the life again, to tell the world the Christ must resurrect on the third day.

5.Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they hated him even more. 6.He said to them, Hear this dream that I have dreamed: 7.Behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and behold, my sheaf arose and stood upright. And behold, your sheaves gathered around it and bowed down to my sheaf. 8.His brothers said to him, Are you indeed to reign over us? Or are you indeed to rule over us? So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words - Genesis 37:5-8

So, what Joseph saw in his first dream is a wave offering, the death, burial and the resurrection of our lord Jesus Christ, It may appears as Joseph's first dream got fulfilled in his life, as he was throw into the pit and raised into the power, but what Joseph has experienced is just a sign of the dream, the sign that follows the dream as a confirmation, but the actual dream is fulfilled in our Lord Jesus Christ.

9.Then he dreamed another dream and told it to his brothers and said, Behold, I have dreamed another dream. Behold, the sun, the moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me. 10.But when he told it to his father and to his brothers, his father rebuked him and said to him, What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow ourselves to the ground before you? 11.And his brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the saying in mind - Genesis 37:9-11

And as per Joseph's second dream, his father and mother should bow down to him, and when Joseph dreamed, his mother Rachel was already passed away, that was the reason, the Bible says, his father Jacob had a concern on Joseph's dream, and kept the dream in his mind, and when Joseph became a ruler of Egypt, his father never bow down to him which confirms that Joseph's both the dreams must be reevaluated,

Why Pharaoh should see two dreams?

Pharaoh's first dream: 17.Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, Behold, in my dream I was standing on the banks of the Nile. 18.Seven cows, plump and attractive, came up out of the Nile and fed in the reed grass. 19.Seven other cows came up after them, poor and very ugly and thin, such as I had never seen in all the land of Egypt. 20.And the thin, ugly cows ate up the first seven plump cows, 21.but when they had eaten them no one would have known that they had eaten them, for they were still as ugly as at the beginning. Then I awoke - Genesis 41:17-21

Pharaoh's second dream: 22.I also saw in my dream seven ears growing on one stalk, full and good. 23.Seven ears, withered, thin, and blighted by the east wind, sprouted after them, 24.and the thin ears swallowed up the seven good ears. And I told it to the magicians, but there was no one who could explain it to me - Genesis 41:22-24

Joseph's interpretation: 25.Then Joseph said to Pharaoh, The dreams of Pharaoh are one; God has revealed to Pharaoh what he is about to do. 26.The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good ears are seven years; the dreams are one. 27.The seven lean and ugly cows that came up after them are seven years, and the seven empty ears blighted by the east wind are also seven years of famine. 28.It is as I told Pharaoh; God has shown to Pharaoh what he is about to do. 29.There will come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt, 30.but after them there will arise seven years of famine, and all the plenty will be forgotten in the land of Egypt. The famine will consume the land, 31.and the plenty will be unknown in the land by reason of the famine that will follow, for it will be very severe, 32.And the doubling of Pharaoh's dream means that the thing is fixed by God, and God will shortly bring it about - Genesis 41:25-32

When Pharaoh's first dream itself well enough to convey the message of plenty that followed by the great famine, why Pharaoh should to see second dream with the same meaning? As per Joseph, Pharaoh must see two dreams, so that he can make an important decision that when the dream will come to pass.

If Pharaoh's dream did not double, its impossible for Joseph to tell when the famine would start, and the same thing happened in Daniel's interpretation as well, when the word Mene repeated twice, the reigning of King Belshazzar's ended at the very same night - 25.And this is the writing that was inscribed: Mene, Mene, Tekel, and Parsin. 26.This is the interpretation of the matter: Mene, God has numbered the days of your kingdom and brought it to an end; 27.Tekel, you have been weighed in the balances and found wanting; 28.Peres, your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians. 29.Then Belshazzar gave the command, and Daniel was clothed with purple, a chain of gold was put around his neck, and a proclamation was made about him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom. 30.That very night Belshazzar the Chaldean king was killed - Daniel 5:25-30

And Pharaoh's two dreams also giving two important clues about Joseph's two dreams, Pharaoh's two dreams are fulfilled immediately because it had the same meaning, that means what Joseph dreamed 13 years before are not same and should be fulfilled in different timeline.

Is my father still alive?

When the prison inmates dreamed, Joseph was very confident about his interpretation, and asked cupbearer to help him to get out of the prison - 5.Then the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison, had a dream, both of them, each man’s dream in one night and each man’s dream with its own interpretation. 6.And Joseph came in to them in the morning and looked at them, and saw that they were sad. 7.So he asked Pharaoh’s officers who were with him in the custody of his lord’s house, saying, “Why do you look so sad today?” 8.And they said to him, “We each have had a dream, and there is no interpreter of it.” So Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell them to me, please.” 9.Then the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, “Behold, in my dream a vine was before me, 10.and in the vine were three branches; it was as though it budded, its blossoms shot forth, and its clusters brought forth ripe grapes. 11.Then Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand.” 12.And Joseph said to him, “This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days. 13.Now within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your place, and you will put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand according to the former manner, when you were his butler. 14.But remember me when it is well with you, and please show kindness to me; make mention of me to Pharaoh, and get me out of this house. 15.For indeed I was stolen away from the land of the Hebrews; and also I have done nothing here that they should put me into the dungeon.” 16.When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said to Joseph, “I also was in my dream, and there were three white baskets on my head. 17.In the uppermost basket were all kinds of baked goods for Pharaoh, and the birds ate them out of the basket on my head.” 18.So Joseph answered and said, “This is the interpretation of it: The three baskets are three days. 19.Within three days Pharaoh will lift off your head from you and hang you on a tree; and the birds will eat your flesh from you.” 20.Now it came to pass on the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, that he made a feast for all his servants; and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants. 21.Then he restored the chief butler to his butlership again, and he placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand. 22.But he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them - Genesis 40:5-22

When Joseph met his brothers, the question he asked "Is my father still alive?" tells that Joseph's dream is not about himself, because as per his dream his father and mother should bow down to him, and his mother is already passed away, and now he is inquiring about his father as well - And he inquired about their welfare and said, Is your father well, the old man of whom you spoke? Is he still alive? They said, Your servant our father is well; he is still alive. And they bowed their heads and prostrated themselves - Genesis 43:27-28

And when Joseph explained the pharaoh's dreams to his brothers, he was so confident about his interpretation, and told to his brothers that famine would last for another 5 years, and again he asked the same question "Is my father still alive?", when he dreamed at the age of 17 his mother was already passed away, and now he is 39 years old, so he understood that the dreams are not belongs to him, but about coming Messiah Jesus Christ - 1.Then Joseph could not restrain himself before all those who stood by him, and he cried out, “Make everyone go out from me!” So no one stood with him while Joseph made himself known to his brothers. 2.And he wept aloud, and the Egyptians and the house of Pharaoh heard it. 3.Then Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph; Is my father still alive?” But his brothers could not answer him, for they were dismayed in his presence. 4.And Joseph said to his brothers, “Please come near to me.” So they came near. Then he said: “I am Joseph your brother, whom you sold into Egypt. 5.But now, do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life. 6.For these two years the famine has been in the land, and there are still five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvesting. 7.And God sent me before you to preserve a posterity for you in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. 8.So now it was not you who sent me here, but God; and He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt - Genesis 45:1-8

Joseph's clue about his dream

Joseph's brothers also had a doubt about the fulfillment Joseph's dreams, because in their first visit Benjamin did not join with them, and in their second visit Jacob did not join with them, and in their third visit Rachel and Leah could not join with them, that was the reason when Jacob passed away, the brothers were so afraid and fell down before Joseph, that's when Jacob reveled that the Dreams are belongs to Lord Jesus Christ and said "Am I in the place of God?" - 15.When Joseph's brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, It may be that Joseph will hate us and pay us back for all the evil that we did to him. 16.So they sent a message to Joseph, saying, Your father gave this command before he died: 17.Say to Joseph, Please forgive the transgression of your brothers and their sin, because they did evil to you. And now, please forgive the transgression of the servants of the God of your father. Joseph wept when they spoke to him. 18.His brothers also came and fell down before him and said, Behold, we are your servants. 19.But Joseph said to them, Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? - Genesis 50:15-19

Fulfillment of Joseph's First Dream

And finally Joseph's first dream got fulfilled when Christ died for us and rose again from the dead - 44.Then he said to them, These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled. 45.Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46.and said to them, Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, 47.and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48.You are witnesses of these things. 49.And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high. 50.And he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. 51.While he blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into heaven. 52.And they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, 53.and were continually in the temple blessing God - Luke 24:44-53

Fulfillment of Joseph's second Dream

And Apostle Paul confirmed that Joseph's second dream yet to be fulfilled - 9.Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10.so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11.and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father - Philippians 2:9-11
