Let Us make man in Our image

People creates images for many reasons, one of the reasons is to explain the character of the original object, for example, we draw the picture of house or create the cardboard model to explain the feature of the real house, at the same time, the picture or the cardboard model cannot be a real house. If humans are created in the image of God, no doubt they should reflect the nature of God, and by studying them we can understand the character of God. 

When God created the sea creatures, birds, and all type of living creatures, the Bible says that God created them according to their kind - 21.So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22.And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth. 23.So the evening and the morning were the fifth day. 24.Then God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind; and it was so. 25.And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good - Genesis 1:21-25

But, when it comes to human being, the Bible says God created man in His own image, and then it says God created them as male and female. So, as a image of God, as a male and female(especially the married couples) should teach us the nature of God, that one God exists as two person, Father and the Son - 26.Then God said, Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. 27.So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28.Then God blessed them, and God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth - Genesis 1:26-28

Adam's Rib

When God created the animals, Bible did not say how God created them as male and female, but when it comes to human being, Bible says God created the man from the dust, and then from the rib of the man He created the woman - 21.And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22.Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man - Genesis 2:21-22

Why God created the man first? Why He created the woman from the rib of the man? It reveals that God is one, and our Lord Jesus Christ came from the bosom of our Heavenly Father - No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him - John 1:18

Woman(Ishshâh) means

When woman was created, she was named as woman, because she was taken out of man - 23.And Adam said: This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman(Ishshâh), Because she was taken out of Man. 24.Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh - Genesis 2:23-24

The Hebrew name for the woman as Ishshâh, and many ancient languages calls our Savior Jesus Christ with similar name (Iēsoûs, Jisas, Isus, Isa) the one who came from the Father - I came forth from the Father - John 16:28a

I will greatly multiply your sorrow

So, as a image of God, the creation of Adam and Eve is teaching us how one God exists as two persons, when people want to make some structural changes in the house, first they will update the cardboard model or the picture of the house, and eventually the actual house also will be updated accordingly. Here the Woman, the image of Jesus Christ received some structural changes, and got some additional responsibilities that comes with great suffering - 15.And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel. 16.To the woman He said: I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over you - Genesis 3:15-16

So, the structural changes first implemented in the cardboard model house, that was the reason the woman are suffering lot during the delivery time and then their sorrow turns into joy, actually this suffering was meant for the original person, that is our Savior Jesus Christ. 

According to God's promise [I will put enmity Between you and the woman] the battle is between satan and the Christ, but it can be misunderstood that the salvation would come through the Woman, that's was the reason God again said [I will put enmity between your seed and her Seed], and her Seed means our Lord Jesus Christ who crushed the satan in the cross of calvary[He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel], and because of His ultimate sacrifice we became the children of God[I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children].
 

O barren

That was the reason many prophecies depicts Jesus Christ as a suffering women, here prophet Isaiah calling Jesus Christ as "O barren", "woman forsaken and grieved in spirit", "young wife abandoned by her husband" - 1.Sing, O barren, You who have not borne! Break forth into singing, and cry aloud, You who have not labored with child! For more are the children of the desolate Than the children of the married woman, says the Lord. 2.Enlarge the place of your tent, And let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; Do not spare; Lengthen your cords, And strengthen your stakes. 3.For you shall expand to the right and to the left, And your descendants will inherit the nations, And make the desolate cities inhabited. 4.Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; Neither be disgraced, for you will not be put to shame; For you will forget the shame of your youth, And will not remember the reproach of your widowhood anymore. 5.For your Maker is your husband, The Lord of hosts is His name; And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; He is called the God of the whole earth. 6.For the Lord has called you Like a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, Like a youthful wife when you were refused, Says your God - Isaiah 54:1-6

And prophet Jeremiah called Jesus Christ as a helpless widow - 1.How lonely sits the city That was full of people! How like a widow is she, Who was great among the nations! The princess among the provinces Has become a slave! 2.She weeps bitterly in the night, Her tears are on her cheeks; Among all her lovers She has none to comfort her. All her friends have dealt treacherously with her; They have become her enemies - Lamentations 1:1-2

And prophet Hosea said that Jesus Christ has to taste the death for our salvation - Then I will sow her for Myself in the earth, And I will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy; Then I will say to those who were not My people, ‘You are My people!’ And they shall say, ‘You are my God!’ - Hosea 2:23

And Apostle Paul confirmed that all these prophecies are pointing to our Savior Jesus Christ - 26.but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all. 27.For it is written: Rejoice, O barren, You who do not bear! Break forth and shout, You who are not in labor! For the desolate has many more children Than she who has a husband - Galatians 4:26-27

In pain you shall bring forth children

When the woman gives birth, the woman's blood strains will be all around the babies body, that's what Christ explaining to Nicodemus that we must born again by the blood of Jesus Christ to be the children of God - 1.Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2.This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him. 3.Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4.Nicodemus said to him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born? 5.Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6.That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7.Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8.The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit - John 3:1-8

Basically the blood strains creates the bond between mother and the baby, and Father will accept only that baby as his own Child, and that child will call him as Father, And Christ is telling the same, that we cannot go to the Father without Christ's blood upon us - Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me - John 14:6

Every family preaching this Gospel truth, whether they know Christ or not, and where ever they live, as a image of God, their life is preaching the Gospel, that by the blood of Jesus Christ we can be the children of God, and by His blood covenant we call the Heavenly God as Father, that was the reason Apostle Peter calling our heavenly Father as Abraham, and our Savior Jesus Christ as Sarah, and we are the Children - as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. And you are her children, if you do good and do not fear anything that is frightening - 1 Peter 3:6
